Why Math?Math didn't come easy for me. It wasn't until I had one teacher who taught me to how to try that I finally realized that I was capable of doing math.
Sometimes, trying means getting less than perfect scores. Sometimes trying means making a guess when you really have know idea. Sometimes trying means starting over and re-doing. Sometimes trying means asking the same questions over and over until your brain light bulb clicks. All I ask of my students is that they are willing to try. I know math isn't everyone's favorite subject. I know it can be challenging. We teach math in schools, not because every career requires you to "solve for x," but because reasoning and problem solving skills are so important no matter where life takes you. |
